Alice Braga and Alia Shawkat

Alia Shawkat was born in Riverside, California on 18 April 1989. She is currently one of America's most famous and wealthy TV actresses. The actress played Maeby Funke on the Fox show Arrested Development a role that brought her a TV Land Future Classic Award. In the film Whip It, she starred with Ellen Page. Shawkat portrayed Hannah in State of Grace from 2001-2004. Shawkat was Maeby Funke's character for all of Arrested Development's run from 2003 until 2018, as part of the regular cast. The show received a majority of positive reviews with Shawkat's performance often being praised. Brian M. Palmer, the pop-culture critic and journalist pointed out that Shawkat was among the brightest stars on an entire series that is populated with bright stars. Scott Weinberg from eFilmCritic described her as a 'funny young woman. In an interview on The A.V. Shawkat told the Club that, in the year 2010, a lot of Shawkat's early experiences as an actress occurred during Arrested development: Mitch Hurwitz was my father character. In a way it was wonderful to spend time with him because I think my understanding of comedy was able to develop really well over that time.
