The shadows that she noticed on the lawn inspired her to spend months developing a technique, which however, did not paint the chosen object on canvas. The object becomes a representation that is its own with the canvas carrying an interpretation by painting of the object. This is especially true when it is a living thing or food item, such as fruit or people. Her ephemeral art style is apparent and the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's work is the photographic image. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved through the combination of two methods of photography and painting. The result is a flattened, two dimensional photograph. Meade often incorporates models painted into the environment around them. This allows them to engage with the environment that she created. Through this, Meade has dissolved the boundaries between photography, painting and performing.
